Rough granite and blooming moss - a political debate - an interactive online game. In his artistic work, Moritz Schneidewendt combines different worlds and listens to the unexpected.
As a musician and artist, he creates experiences that are both touching and thought-provoking. He follows the unknown, looks behind things and faces up to his social responsibility.
With his ensembles Broken Frames Syndicate, Kommas Ensemble and ensemble via nova, Moritz develops new formats and tells personal stories of the unfamiliar on stage. His view of the world is characterized by an boundless curiosity and fascination for contemporary music in all its facets.
Moritz Schneidewendt tends to work in an interdisciplinary way in order to convey the multi-layered themes of our time and complex aesthetics. He combines his classical training as a clarinettist and bass clarinettist with the means and techniques of other artistic disciplines and seeks dialog with others. His conceptual concert design creates experiences that convey more than just entertainment.
After completing his master's degree with distinction, new doors opened for him at the International Ensemble Modern Academy.
Since 2018, Schneidewendt leads the resulting Broken Frames Syndicate, which was supported by the German Music Council and awarded the Ensemble Prize of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation in 2024.

Broken Frames Syndicate
plays contemporary music and brings holistic concert experiences to the stage. The ten of us show alternatives to the usual and stand up for the critical examination of socially relevant topics. Our focus is on collaboration with young composers, through which we commit ourselves to the diversification of the contemporary classical scene.
The conceptual depth of our programming is the core of our vision. With new formats, we use music to tell stories, inspire discussions, think outside the box, and invest in new ways of thinking.
In doing so, we consciously free ourselves from outdated structures and dogmas of the music business.
Founded in 2018 after our time at the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt, we now play in varying formations and regularly perform in concerts and at festivals in Germany and abroad. Recent invitations include Mixtur Festival in Barcelona, the Harvard Group for New Music residency, and Beethovenfest Bonn.
BFS is awarded the Ernst von Siemens Ensembleprize 2024.

We question the existing.
We draw strength from fractures.
We are the Broken Frames Syndicate.
We cooperate with young composers and put current music into the context of topics that matter to us.
We are more than the parts of ourselves.
Kommas Ensemble
Kommas Ensemble is a Cologne-based contemporary music formation. A special focus is on the latest developments in Latin American new music. With conceptual programmes, Latin American composers in Germany are given a platform to broaden the spectrum of contemporary music here and thus contribute to a democratisation of the global music business.Latin American composers, new artistic positions and socio-political themes from Latin America are to be increasingly reflected in our programmes.

We are dedicated to the interpretation of contemporary chamber music. Our projects include electronics, improvisation, scenic elements and light installations that are integrated into new concert formats. We particularly enjoy performing premieres and therefore collaborate closely with composers. In this way, we cultivate a broad repertoire of new works dedicated to us.
Since 2016, we have been playing in the same instrumentation - flute, clarinet, accordion, violin and violoncello. Our own concert series at the Erfurt Kunsthalle REFLEXIONEN - CO|:N:|ECT - TRANSFORM - FUSION, however, seek contact with other musicians. We have realised projects with ensembles such as Ensemble Mosaik, Black Pencil (NL), NeoQuartet (PL), Pluto's Tide Dance Company, Good Mori (KOR), UMS'n JIP (CH) and the jazz musician Wolfgang Lackerschmidt.
Regularly we perform on international stages and at festivals. Some of our highlights have been trips to Seoul and Daegu, London, Italy, Switzerland, Gdansk or Barcelona.
